Gold

I was the gold you once wore

Just to melt me in a crucible

A speck of dust on your rusted heart

I thought it was just enough

But the night erased the day

Into the blankness in your face

My hurt wasn’t reflected there

The mirror had long since cracked

Into figments of my expectations

That you banished from your sleep

So I flared the tinder into a blaze

Wrecking havoc in your peace

My fingers roiling your waters

Just flow back to me

Until I saw you weren’t armoured

Never veiled to unveil

Sending me stabs to mark our grave

Smouldering embers in the fireplace

And daylight splashed onto me

Reliving its death in my head

I clung to its outstretched arms

Lest your night came again

  1. Wow! This is really deep, Shruthi! There were a few lines I really loved a lot.
“A speck of dust on your rusted heart”
“So I flared the tinder into a blaze
    Wrecking havoc in your peace”
“Sending me stabs to mark our grave
    Smouldering embers in the fireplace”
I even loved the way you ended it. This was exceptional, very well thought over. Loved it ❤
